Super Mario Bros.

A side-scrolling platform game released by Nintendo for the Famicom in 1985. Players guide Mario (and Luigi in two-player mode) across eight worlds to rescue Princess Toadstool from Bowser. It was directed by Shigeru Miyamoto, with music by Koji Kondo.

Development began in fall 1984 with a team of seven programmers and artists led by Shigeru Miyamoto, drawing on technical know-how from earlier titles such as Excitebike. Manufacturing began in August 1985.
