A role-playing game released by Square for the Famicom in 1987. Directed by Hironobu Sakaguchi with music by Nobuo Uematsu, it is the first entry in the long-running Final Fantasy series.

Development

The game was made by a core team of seven. Its working title, Fighting Fantasy, was changed because of a trademark conflict with an existing gamebook series.

Gameplay

Gameplay overview

Players choose classes for four characters at the start and fight turn-based, menu-driven battles, with the party shown on the right side of the screen opposite the enemies.
