Sega traces its founding to 1960 as Nihon Goraku Bussan. It produced home consoles including the SG-1000 (1983), Master System, Mega Drive/Genesis (1988), Saturn (1994) and Dreamcast (1998). In January 2001 it announced the discontinuation of the Dreamcast and restructured as a platform-agnostic third-party developer.
