NEC Home Electronics was a sister company of NEC, founded in 1953 as Shin Nippon Electric and renamed in 1983. It released the PC Engine, developed with Hudson Soft, in Japan on October 30, 1987; the system reached North America as the TurboGrafx-16 in 1989. Its successor, the Japan-only PC-FX, sold poorly, and the company ceased operations in 2000.
